Spring Quote Hand Embroidery Project

Updated: Sep 26, 2023

At this time of the year we will all be spending more time in the garden and this lovely hand embroidery piece pays tribute to this. It is a fun project that is perfect for home decor. You will learn several different stitches that you can use on so many different things such as clothing, cushions and any fabric project you want to give a personal touch too.

You will need:

  • 2.5 inch Circles Punch or Die

  • Heavyweight Cardstock - Hunkydory Adorable Scorable - 465092

  • Rare Earth Cogs and Gear Stamp Collection - 460446

  • Mod Podge - 445119

  • Ranger Embossing Kit - 465771

  • Patterned Paper

  • Fine Liner Pen

Step 1 - Embroidery stitches you will need to know for this project. See the additional stitch sheet if you do not know these stitches.

  • Back stitch

  • French knots

  • Fishbone stitch

  • Stem stitch

  • Lazy daisy stitch

  • Fly stitch

Step 2 - Print out the pattern and trace on to the centre of your fabric with a water erasable pen or tailor chalk. For a 7” hoop cut fabric to approximately 9”x9”.

Then put your fabric in to the hoop, ensure that it is taught.

Step 4 - Start by stitching your words using a back stitch.

Step 5 -

Leaf A - is the Fishbone stitch in a dark green. For the stem I have used the Stem stitch in the same green.

Step 6 - Leaf B - is a Lazy daisy stitch for the leaves, then a Stem stitch for the stem in a 2 tone green.

Step 7 - Leaf C - is a Fishbone stitch in a 2 tone green.

Step 8 - Leaf D - is a continuous Fly stitch in apple green.

Step 9 - Leaf E - is a Back stitch for the stem and a French knots at the ends in olive green.

Step 10 - Leaf F - is the Fishbone stitch for the leave and a Stem stitch layered over the leave for the stem in a light green.

Step 11 - Leaf G - is a Stem stitch for the stem, then French knots around the stem in an Emerald green.

Step 12 - Remove your piece from the hoop and use a damp sponge to remove the water erasable pen marks and leave to dry.

Step 13 - Before you put the piece back in to the hoop, trace around the hoop on to some felt and cut out, this will cover the back of your work. Now put your piece back in to the hoop and ensure that it is taught.

Step 14 - Trim off the over hanging fabric so that there is enough to adhere this to the inner hoop, then glue in place.

Step 15 - Use a glue gun to adhere the felt circle to the back of the piece.

Step 16 - Hang using some twine.
